India–UAE Energy Partnership: Why Corrosion & Metallurgical Testing Matter for ADNOC Projects
August 2026 · 6 min read · Oil & Gas | Corrosion Testing | Metallurgical Testing
As India and the UAE deepen their energy relationship, reliable materials and rigorous testing are becoming increasingly important for critical oil & gas infrastructure.
Recent reporting by The Economic Times highlights the strengthening energy relationship between India and the UAE and the growing role of ADNOC and Indian energy companies in this partnership.
ADNOC itself has also announced strategic collaboration with Indian partners across areas including crude oil, LNG, LPG and energy storage, demonstrating the continuing importance of the UAE–India energy relationship.

Why Material Testing Matters
Oil & gas pipelines and components can operate in environments containing H₂S, CO₂, chlorides, water, pressure and mechanical stresses. Under these conditions, materials can be susceptible to environmentally assisted cracking and other forms of corrosion.
For critical applications, mechanical strength alone is not sufficient. Materials may also need to demonstrate resistance to:
Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC)
Sulphide Stress Cracking (SSC)
Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC)
Hydrogen-related damage
Localised corrosion
This makes corrosion and metallurgical testing an important part of material qualification.
NACE TM0316 – Four-Point Bend Testing
NACE TM0316 is a specialised four-point bend test used to evaluate the resistance of metallic materials to SCC and SSC under specified environmental conditions.
The test involves controlled specimen preparation, application of bending stress, exposure to the specified test environment and post-exposure examination for cracking.
At Subodh Material Technologists, we provide NACE TM0316 testing as part of our specialised corrosion-testing capabilities.
Our approach combines:
Controlled Specimen Preparation → Four-Point Bending → Environmental Exposure → Post-Test Examination → Metallurgical Evaluation
Where required, metallographic examination can provide additional information about crack initiation and morphology.
Supporting ADNOC-Related Projects
Subodh Material Technologists provides corrosion and metallurgical testing support for pipe suppliers and engineering companies involved in ADNOC-related projects, including testing programmes for suppliers such as Ratnamani and Welspun.
Our testing programmes can include:
NACE TM0316 | HIC | SSC | SCC | Metallography | Mechanical Testing | Chemical Analysis
Testing is carried out against the applicable project specification, material grade, test method and acceptance criteria.
ADNOC's published materials guidance and specifications also address sour-service material requirements and relevant testing for applicable applications. (ADNOC)
Integrated Corrosion & Metallurgical Testing
A major advantage of an integrated laboratory is the ability to evaluate the material beyond a single test.
At Subodh Material Technologists, capabilities include:
Corrosion Testing

Supporting India's Global Oil & Gas Supply Chain
As Indian manufacturers increasingly participate in international energy projects, independent and technically reliable material testing becomes increasingly important.
For pipe manufacturers, EPC contractors and engineering companies, the right testing programme can help establish material quality, corrosion resistance and suitability for the intended service environment.
With specialised expertise in NACE TM0316, HIC, SSC, SCC, electrochemical corrosion testing and metallurgical evaluation, Subodh Material Technologists provides an integrated testing solution for demanding oil & gas applications.
